Domestic customer, Brighton

We were tasked with the full refurbishment of a ground floor and basement propety in central Brighton. Included in this project was the rewire of the property including the installation of LED spotlights throughout, the fitting of a new kitchen and bathroom, the damp proofing of the rear of the property, the installation of new engineered oak flooring, the removal and replacement of all ceilings throughout the property, the re-plastering of all walls, the replacement of the wet heating system including all new radiators and the addition of insulation within ceiling voids. Skelton Electrical completed the rewiring and the kitchen installation as well as project managing the rest of the refurbishment.

One of the major challenges with this project was the removal of the existing ceilings. Over the years previous contractors had just layered new board on top of old instead of removing and replacing, this had resulted in three, sometimes four layers of ceiling having to be removed. This was labour intensive but we were finally able to strip the ceilings back to the original joists ready for cable routing, insulation installation and re-boarding and re-plastering. One of the other challenges we faced was working with bungaroosh, a composite building material used only in Brighton. It is well known amongst professionals in the local construction industry as a 'nightmare' material to work with. It often takes great care and skill to work around this material without damaging the existing building structure.

We ensured that throughout this project each trade knew exactly what their role was, how long they had to achieve their task and when exactly they would arrive to complete it. We employed our very own scheduling system which ensured that the job was completed exactly on time. We had planned in our estimate to the client an expected job length of three weeks and the job was completed as planned on the fifteenth day. This meant that the customer's storage costs were not increased by additional timescales and that they were able to save money on their own temporoary living arrangements when they moved back in to the propety.
